About Ilkeston Elim Christian Centre
The church began as a house meeting in the 1960's and then following a crusade by Pastor Ron Jones, an
Elim evangelist, the church moved into a Wesleyan chapel on South Street, Ilkeston. Following concerns
about the safety of the building the church began meeting in a community hall, then in 1987/88 the Pastor
decided to move from the town centre out onto the Cotmanhay estate.
Initially they entered into a joint sharing agreement with the local Methodist Church. Following this they
rented rooms from Bennerley Fields special school. In 1993 the church bought its existing premises on
Charlotte St, Cotmanhay: a clothing factory purchased for £40,000 and a gift of £30,000 enabled the church
to renovate the entire factory in a year.
